So we got about 6 inches of snow over the last 24 hours. Normally that means nasty roads and much longer commute. Today was no different, but i had a smile on my face the whole ride into work. I brought my snowshoes in with me and decided to go over to a nature preserve over lunch. What a wonderful plan it turned out to be! Spring Valley isn’t overly large, but when you are snowshoeing over lunch its plenty. I was lucky enough to scare two deer out of their hiding spot in the tall prairie grass as I explored. Hope you enjoy the pics of the area as much as i enjoyed taking them!

Sunday night Bela and I started working on the main wall – continuing what he and his dad started on Saturday. We worked our way down the main wall figuring out where we wanted the fun random big tiles.

We finsihed that night with half the main wall done.
Tuesday night we decided to continue to work on the walls and finished the main wall. the only exception is any areas that will need cutting- most of the edges, as well as where our soap dish and extra shelves will go. We added all the border (fun leaves- multi colored) on the 2 walls which fit PERFECTLY and the side wall won’t require any cutting except for the area with the 2 shelves!
And in the process we figured out that bela is a better tiler (tho he’s pretty good at mudding too) and i’m a better mudder- tho i may be a little slower and a bit messy haha! he keeps our tiles nice and straight and i got a blister from making sure my mud lines were JUST right haha!

here is the semi-finished product!

Gena , my friend and old co-worker, flew into town for a weekend in Chicago to visit some old friends. Unfortunately her friend she was planning to stay with came down with the flu so i got some extra Gena time
Conagra (her company) was putting in an ice rink so we got the idea to go skating at Millennium park while she was in town. I had never been to the rink before so it was a great idea!

It started snowing right when we got there so it was kind of dreamy. Snowflakes falling lightly at first, then it really started coming down. Our friend (and also co-worker) jimmy joined us a bit late. An hour or so into the on-and-off again skating Gena took a fall. She heard a pop and didn’t feel so great so she took a break. We skated a bit longer but ended up taking off early. The snow started turning to sleet which was perfect timing to quit!

While skating i had fun taking fun photos- these are just a few!

I was supposed to meet up with my friend Astrid, but we ended up visiting JP (another friend/usr person Gena wanted to hang with) quickly and grabbed a very late lunch at the Twisted Spoke as the weather got pretty bad. It seemed to be getting worse and worse so we went straight back to my house and snuggled up while the ice continued to form outside. We iced Gena’s hand and hoped for the best.
Gena caught an early flight and found out later she had fractured her wrist.. what a bummer!
