the shower has walls…

Posted in home at 11:27 pm by heidihoho7

we’re making more progress!  we now have walls on 3/4 of the shower. the last portion will take a bit more to finish it as we have decided to build in a recessed shelf and we also have to cut around the shower knob and the shower head.  we expect more updates after this coming weekend.

Our master bath is getting a makeover!

I’m not sure what triggered it but we’ve decided to redo our master bath (which will probably be the first of many bigger projects). We had a lovely 70s look going on with a lovely greeny/yellow toilet and small shower.

Of course we forgot to get a “good” before shot so this is from when we bought the house. But i think you can get an idea of what we had…

Our plan started out with the idea to replace the small shower with a nice big one that is preferably not greeny and maybe in doing that update some of the rest of the bathroom accessories. This of course got us thinking. So we went to home depot to check out our options. We found some tile we liked and discussed options for vanities and faucets. We had similar tastes and ideas as to what we thought we wanted so it went pretty well.

I went home for a weekend while Bela went to Minneapolis for a birthday party. He wanted to surprise me so he left MN at 3am to make it back in time to put in a full 18+ hours of work. He bought and installed a new vanity, faucet, and the floor tiles we talked about… (he also got a very efficient toilet -white!!- that we’ll install hopefully soon). It was so exciting to walk into the updated bath!

Since then we’ve talked about putting in a ceramic (?) tile shower. So bela and his dad have spent a few days now pulling out the old shower and exploring the foundation. It seemed a bit wonky of a setup- we had a 48″ shower in a 60″ space… so we’ll be putting in a bigger shower for sure!

so next up was doing all the plumbing, which included installing new pipes and rerouting a few things so we could do the full shower. After a full 24 hours of no water (while i was gone to my family’s again for turkey day) the men had running water and a new shower base installed.

Maki is a little afraid of the shower yet… next up is the walls which should happen this weekend. Toilet swap and negotiations on color to come! These are a few options we’ll be exploring!
